WHAT is the Battle of the Books?
*It is a reading program for high school students in the Troy School District that started in 2012. Each year, a list of ten books from the current calendar year is chosen by staff and students from both schools. Students can earn prizes and attend special events if they read at least three books.
WHO can read the books?
*Any students and staff members
HOW can we find the books?
*Check out the shelf titled "Battle of the Books" right when you walk in the door! You can also put books on hold through the catalog. For more information on the Battle of the Books use the databases SORA and Hoopla.
WHEN will we be reading the books?
*The list is published in late November, and students can read the books through May. In early May, students will fill out a raffle ticket for each book they read, and they will be eligible for prizes.
WHY should we read these books?
*Reading is the #1 way to increase your vocabulary. It is also the #1 way to experience life through different perspectives. The books we carefully selected have been read by students from both high schools and were well liked. They are engaging, well written, and diverse in their subject matter and genre. PLUS: If you read at least three, you will be eligible to win prizes and participate in a special event, a trivia competition, and more!
